Peach trees on the Nisshin campus come into bloom this week. The peach trees are considered good for warding off evil. It is mentioned in the Kojiki (Record of Ancient Matters) as an instrument of salvation used to rescue a god from trouble. There is a common saying that “Momo kuri sannen kaki hachi nen.” The peach grows quickly but has a short life span. Peach and chestnut trees are said to take three years to mature, and the persimmon eight!
