Shizuka earned her Ph.D. in higher education at UVA's Curry School of Education where she focused on management, leadership, organizational/personal performance, human motivation, organizational change, and meaningful work. During her time at UVA Shizuka wrote business cases on entrepreneurship and organic growth and taught organizational behavior to undergraduates.
Shortly after leaving UVA, Shizuka and her husband founded the i.m.i. institute, LLC hoping to offer organizational development (OD) and leadership/management training programs. Today, Sihzuka is committed to growing her company through leadership/management training programs, speaking, OD work, and coaching. Additionally, Shizuka teaches organizational behavior and leadership theory courses at the Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics and also serves as Associate Director for Outreach Programs in the U.S. Her signature program is about how people can transform the way they lead through meaningful work.
The current CIC cohort is Shizuka's 4th class as a Workgroup Leader. She first became involved with CIC after meeting Toan at a Chamber social gathering in 2013. Her company's vision is to reduce suffering in the workplace by promoting meaningful work and sustainable growth; CIC provides a way for her to contribute to the economic development in a sustainable way, not to mention participants' personal and professional growth. CIC's approach in helping emerging entrepreneurs fits well with her philosophy of learning facilitation that is centered around self-determination and self-discovery.
