Frontier Spirit Program: China

As part of your Chinese language degree you can spend one semester abroad. Normally, most students apply for the study abroad, following rigorous language and study courses here at NUCB. Qualified applicants for this study abroad portion of the program will taken in a program designed for you by the Beijing Foreign Studies University.
This is an exciting opportunity to enhance your language skills whilst gaining an international approach and perspective through living and studying overseas. Following the course you will also have the chance to gain valuable work experience in a Chinese language environment and making contacts to expand your future career possibilities.
Program Content
The Program is offered twice a year: April and September.

Acceptance Criteria
All students wishing to go on this program must fulfill the following criteria:
- Above average achievement in university courses
- Class attendance
- Successful interview
Expenses borne by the University
- Airfare (Nagoya - Beijing return)
- Tuition and fees
- Residence fees during the schooling period
Expenses borne by the individual
- Living expenses
- Local transportation costs
- Accommodation expenses during the internship or travel period
- Spending money
Students who find themselves in financial difficulty, may apply for a no-interest loan of 200,000 yen. This is payable back in one to four installments.
Content of Schooling
BFSU has collaborated with NUCB in designing a course that is tailor-made for you. It will cover General Chinese, Business Chinese, Chinese Current Affairs and Chinese Culture. There is also a social program that you can get involved in at the university.
- Credits are given for an equivalent number of hours of tuition at the home school.
Internship

BFSU also organizes internships at a local or Japan-related company in China. It is an excellent opportunity to put your hard-earned Chinese skills to practical use in a truly Chinese business environment.
Past internships have included, but are not limited to: Ito Yokado Department Store, Toyota Rail, Japan Transport, Beijing Amusement Park, Takenaka Industries, and so forth.
Pre-departure orientation
Orientation is compulsory for all students accepted to the Frontier Spirit Program. All days must be attended so that you obtain full information for the trip, information on the study program, advice on intercultural understanding and discussion of the internship. There is also a 2-day intensive Chinese language course.
