講義概要

This course is an introduction for the Japanese student of English to the diverse and wide varieties of the English language and English language speakers around the globe. There are numerous non-native and native varieties of English spoken throughout the world, and with the fast past of globalization, World Englishes has become an important area of study and research for linguists.

With the aim of deepening NUCB students’ understanding of the current state of the English language around the world, this course will introduce a series of topics related to the academic theory of World Englishes study, as well the characteristics of the different varieties of English spoken today and historically.
