Violah, Uganda
Violah (Uganda), Kubasaki High School, Okinawa, Japan
We are joined by Violah from Uganda, who had been studying at Kubasaki High School - A United States Department of Defense Dependents School in Okinawa. We asked her why she chose NUCB and what she thinks about her studies so far.
Why did you choose NUCB?
Japan provides a unique living environment for international students. Safety, ease of travel, cultural opportunities, food, convenience stores (I’m team Lawson), and proximity to Tokyo, all add up to an environment conducive for students like myself.
NUCB aligns with my living, learning, and business interests. The University location is perfect; I love the community and environment Japan provides. My family currently lives in Okinawa and will be there for the foreseeable future. The proximity of my family will allow them to support me in times of need.
The international makeup of the staff and student population will allow me to better relate and connect with my peers and instructors to develop shared ideals, background perspectives, and beliefs.
Many courses offered by NUCB excite me. I am especially interested in Business Negotiation, Strategic Thinking, New Business Development, and International Management - courses like these are not available anywhere else.
What has been your favorite class so far and why?
So far, my favorite class is Introduction to Accounting because Professor Frendy uses real problems that learners can relate to. He uses cases that require critical thinking and concentration and he also highly encourages group discussion and engagement.
What is your favorite facility on campus?
I love Sora Cafe's environment and the interior designs are so welcoming.
It is quiet after lunch, and we can also observe the orange and red leaves in Autumn which offers breathtaking beauty as we study.
What do you want to do in the future?
My goal in business is to improve lifestyles through economic growth in developing nations. My personal experiences make it clear that education (in Africa especially) and the economy have been corrupted, and most people have no voice. Appropriate leadership can create a better system.
