We are pleased to announce that our Career Advancement Program International (CAPI), an overseas internship program, has been honored with the Award for Excellence at the 8th Career Design Program Awards – Students' Choice.

This award recognizes corporations and organizations that have implemented impactful work experience programs, contributing to the social and professional independence of students. The selection process includes evaluations from various third-party entities such as student surveys, student selection panels, university professors, corporate representatives, ministries and agencies, and notable media outlets like Nihon Keizai Shimbun and Mynavi.

Since its inception in 2012, the CAPI program has been held 25 times and has been highly regarded by the awards committee for its consistent and meaningful work experience opportunities for students at Japanese companies in Asian countries. The program’s long-standing commitment to global exposure and professional development continues to shape the future of its participants.

What is the Career Design Program Award?

The Students' Choice Career Design Program Award recognizes internships that enhance students' understanding of work, industry, and society, as well as initiatives supporting career development. By highlighting trends in effective programs that shape students' career perspectives, the award aims to improve program quality, encourage more companies to participate, and foster better matching between students and employers.

This year, the 8th edition of the award was presented to our University’s overseas internship program, CAPI, out of 1,077 companies that applied.

Reasons for selection

The program was submitted for this award as an initiative providing work experience at Japanese companies in Asian countries. The evaluation of the program included the following key components:

Pre-trip Training: This phase involved several months of preparation, including language and IT literacy instruction, a Toyota Production System certification course, and etiquette training for the host company.

On-the-job Training: During the internship, students received support from both the host company and career staff, including the submission of daily reports and bi-weekly progress updates.

Post-training: After returning to Japan, students were required to write a final report of over 10,000 words and participate in an on-campus debriefing session to reflect on and consolidate their learning.

The program was highly praised for its comprehensive support and content, which encouraged student initiative and provided an effective educational experience.

Internship Opportunities in English for GBBA Students

Specially tailored for our Global BBA students, CAPI is actively working to expand internship opportunities that do not require Japanese language proficiency. As of May 2024, students can choose from four partner companies where the entire internship can be conducted in English.

These internships are designed to provide real-world experience in a professional environment, while eliminating language barriers that may otherwise limit opportunities. All preliminary training seminars and post-internship reports are conducted in English to ensure accessibility and support student development.

NUCB's Path of Globalization

Since its founding in 1953, the university has consistently upheld world-class management education and was the first institution in Japan to achieve the prestigious Triple Crown—holding three international accreditations. The university offers five faculties and programs to help students acquire practical business skills: the School of Business Administration, the School of Economics, the School of Commerce, the School of International Studies, and the School of Business Administration.

In April 2025, the university will be ranked 44th in the world and 15th in Japan, further solidifying its position as a global leader in education.

That same month, 121 international students from 44 countries will join the university, bringing the total number of international undergraduate students to 385 from 59 countries. In addition to its award-winning overseas internship programs, the university continues to provide an exceptional environment for cultivating global talent through unique international study abroad opportunities and cross-cultural exchanges with international students on campus.
