CESA: International Exchange Photo Rally at Atsuta Shrine
On Saturday, April 12, a total of 45 exchange students, Global BBA students, and Japanese students came together for the “Atsuta Shrine Photo Rally,” the first event of the year organized by the student group CESA (Cultural Exchange Student Association).
Participants gathered at two stations—Yonenoki and Kaminosha—where they received a short briefing on Japanese train etiquette and learned how to use the "Donichi Eco Ticket" for safe and efficient travel throughout the day.
Upon arriving at Atsuta Jingu Shrine, students were introduced to traditional shrine etiquette, such as bowing before passing through the torii gate and performing purification rituals at the hand-washing basin. For many international students, this was a first-time experience, and it was heartwarming to see their curiosity and respect as they learned how to cleanse their hands and mouths properly. At the main shrine, CESA members supported each student as they offered prayers, followed by visits to sacred spots like the Kiyomizu Shrine and the area where the spirit of Amaterasu is enshrined.
The group then moved on to the Kusanagi Pavilion, where students tried their hand at purchasing tickets and navigating the cultural space—gaining not just insight, but also practical experience in Japanese daily life. Throughout the rally, students eagerly explored Japanese history and tradition, many expressing how meaningful and memorable the experience was.
To close the event, everyone gathered at Atsuta nagAya, a local spot known for its Nagoya specialties. Over food and friendly conversation, students deepened their cross-cultural connections and shared reflections on the day’s discoveries. Smiles, laughter, and new friendships marked the perfect ending to a culturally enriching event.
CESA remains committed to creating engaging, interactive opportunities for international and Japanese students to connect, learn, and grow together. Stay tuned for more events that bridge cultures and build community!

What is the student organization "CESA"?
We are the Cultural Exchange Student Association (CESA)—a student-led organization at Nagoya University of Commerce and Business dedicated to promoting international exchange on campus. Since our establishment in April 2015, we have hosted a wide range of events aimed at fostering cross-cultural connections and mutual understanding among students.
Guided by our core concept, "International Exchange Opportunities for All Students!", CESA continues to create inclusive, engaging experiences where both international and Japanese students can learn from one another, build friendships, and grow together in a globally minded community.
