Global BBA students create the がくSay Club

We are pleased to announce a brand new club on Nisshin Campus for students at NUCB that are interested in expanding their knowledge beyond their studies.

The first of its kind, we caught up with co-founders from the Global BBA Program Naima and Hannah to learn more about this exciting project and what future members can expect.

Why did you want to start your own club? How easy was it to make it?

When we first moved to Nagoya as international students, there was so much we didn’t know about the city. Over time, we discovered amazing places and events that made living here truly enjoyable—and we wanted to share that with others. Our love for graphic design inspired us to start a club that promotes the best of Nagoya through creative publications.

Starting the club took time and planning. We had to clearly define our goals, organize our team, and go through a long but straightforward approval process. It’s definitely a commitment, but if you’re passionate and ready to put in the effort, it’s worth it!

What is the がくSAY! club and who can join?

Our official name is the NUCB Student Publications Club, and we create content about life in Nagoya and at NUCB, mainly through social media. To keep things fun and student-friendly, we go by the nickname “がくSAY!”—a mix of the Japanese word for student, がく (gaku), and the English word say. It reflects our goal: giving students a voice through words and media.

We welcome both Japanese and international students from all backgrounds. Whether you want to share your culture, learn new skills, or connect with others, がくSAY! is a great place to grow and create together.

What positions can students do?

There are six positions in the club and students can choose either one or multiple positions.

  • Research & Writing: Research and write about interesting things in Nagoya that are worth the trip and experience or student life in NUCB. Write Instagram posts/stories, scripts for videos, and help us find the “story” behind every content piece.
  • Graphic design: You’ll create eye-catching visuals for our Instagram posts, stories, and club materials. Experience with Canva, Illustrator, or Procreate is preferred—but beginners are welcome!
  • Video Editing: You’ll edit interview clips, create reels, or mini stories to post on our platforms. Experience with Capcut, iMovie, or Premier is preferred—but beginners are welcome!
  • Photography/Videography: Take photos & videos of places, events, or student life moments. Your work will help us create promotional materials for the club.
  • On Camera Presence: Be the face or voice of our videos! This includes hosting segments, interviewing students, or speaking directly to the camera with confidence and energy.
  • Translation: Translate captions, subtitles, or any writing (EN⇄JP) and assist with interpretation when needed during interviews or discussions.

What is your goal over the next few years?

As founders of がくSAY!, this club is very special to us. We hope that we can continue to grow the club and gain more members, both international and Japanese students. We also want to grow our Instagram account engagement through increased followers and views. We will know that we have achieved our goal as a club if our Instagram account becomes a common reference for students to make plans in Nagoya and to learn more about student life in NUCB. Ultimately, we hope that this club can run for a long time–even after we graduate from NUCB.

Do you have any advice for other students wanting to start their own club on campus?

If you have an idea you are passionate about, you should definitely consider creating your own club! However, it takes a lot of time, effort, and preparation to create and maintain your club, so you should also be certain that you really want to create one. The entire process can become much easier and more enjoyable if you are able to find people who share the same passion and interest as you. This way, you can share the workload and help each other figure out key aspects of your club. It will be important to make your goals clear for what you want your club to achieve. This will help in determining your club’s activities and the roles of the members. For as long as you have these key aspects decided, everything else will fall into place.
