Second Semester of the 2024 On-Campus Language Exchange Program

At NUCB, students have the unique opportunity to experience international exchange daily, right on campus. One of the standout activities is the Language Exchange program, a favorite among students. Organized by the Self Access Center (SAC), an English language self-study facility, this program fosters cultural and linguistic connections between students, enhancing both their communication skills and global perspectives.
Language Exchange
The Language Exchange program goes beyond simply exchanging languages. It’s about sharing customs, cultures, and building lasting friendships. International students are paired with Japanese students, with the goal of enhancing language proficiency and promoting cross-cultural exchange. Participants engage in learning a variety of languages, including English, Japanese, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, and Korean. Open to all students, regardless of department or academic year, the program accepts applications at the start of each semester, offering a rich opportunity for personal and academic growth.
The First Meeting
This semester, 144 enthusiastic international and Japanese students from around the globe joined the large-scale Language Exchange program, forming 69 pairs. During the first meeting, participants introduced themselves in a dynamic session where pairs rotated, engaging in lively conversations. International students shared their cultures and values, making new discoveries that embodied the essence of "study abroad in Japan." At NUCB, students interact across borders in spaces like the cafeteria, library, and fitness gym, fostering mutual respect for each other’s cultures. The Language Exchange program, in particular, is a favorite, allowing students to build meaningful friendships while enhancing their language skills. This program not only deepens cross-cultural understanding but also equips students with the communication and problem-solving skills essential for thriving in a global society—an invaluable asset for their future careers in the international arena.
