Learn about sustainability: Business for a Better World

Sustainability

Sustainability is core to everything that exists in this world; after all, the word refers first and foremost to the ability of continuing over a long period. The deriving and popular definition leads to not causing or being as harmless as possible to the environment.

Over the decades, with attention rising on the degradation of nature due to human activities and the necessity to preserve it, sustainability has gradually drove forward to become an integral concept, bringing social responsibility along with it. As such, sustainability can now be considered as an umbrella that encompasses numerous pillars in order to improve the quality of life as a whole, not just for humankind but for the whole planet.

The NUCB Virtual Winter Program

This is one of the major driving forces behind our brand-new Virtual Winter Program, Business for a Better World, launching in January 2021. As a higher educational institute that strives to educate the future business leaders and that contributes to the society, it is among our purpose to bring attention to this. While our academic programs already include elements, Business for a Better World offers the opportunity to have a holistic view that focuses on the various actors in a week-long format.

With participants from all over the world, this program includes lectures (with our Case Method pedagogy), presentations from industry experts in Japan, a Japanese cultural experience and a final group project that revolves around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Benefits of online short programs:

Under normal circumstances, university students always try to make the best out of their summer or spring breaks by diversifying their experiences, which ranges from enrolling into summer or spring courses at their own institution, taking part in short study abroad programs (Summer Programs or Winter Programs), doing an internship, volunteering, working part time, pursuing hobbies, making and spend time with families and/or friends, traveling, just to name some common practices.

However, the current pandemic has brought people to spend more time at home in pursuit of other activities. This is when online short programs, such as the NUCB Virtual Winter Program, will provide a great opportunity for students to continue learning (particularly about the most important topic for this generation), gaining academic credits for their work, enjoying a fun experience with peers and meeting people from all over the world!
