Yohannes, an Indonesian student in his 4th year on the Global BBA Program has just secured a job at a subsidiary of Toyota. We caught up with him to learn about his journey at NUCB and the support he has received from the careers office.

What have you learned at NUCB as a Global BBA Student?

I have learnt many things in the past 3 and a half years. Not only business and managerial knowledge from all the courses but also necessary skills such as strategic thinking, communication, leadership, and much more.

The careers office accompanied you to a job fair at Tokyo Big Sight - How was that?

It was a big job-hunting event, filled with hundreds of big domestic and International companies such as Fast retailing, Itochu, Sega, Amazon, Coca-cola, Goldman Sachs, and many more. It was better than I expected since there are also seminars that helped me during my job-hunting process. During the 2-day event, I met with almost 50 companies and got a chance to be interviewed by 5 companies during the event.

What support have you received from the careers office at NUCB?

I have received tremendous support from the staff of the career office. Before consulting with the career support center, I was unaware of the job-hunting process in Japan which requires a lot of steps and processes. The career support office helped me to go through processes like writing an entry sheet and telling me how to go through an interview process. Such support has helped me to find my dream career.

What job offers have you received?

I received two job offers. A company based in Nara prefecture - offered me a role in marketing and business development for the Asia Pacific region.

The second offer was from a subsidiary of Toyota that focuses on paint technology and machinery for the automotive industry. I received an offer as a purchaser in the company management department. Based in Toyota city, the company has offices in many different countries, including my home country Indonesia.

Finally, do you have any advice for your juniors?

Focus on studying, you will be rewarded for your hard work. I also recommend starting the job hunting early and seeking support from the career support center. Don't limit yourself, look for job opportunities as much anywhere you can, and use portals such as (rikunabi, mynavi, asagakunabi etc). Good luck!
