Language Exchange on Campus (Japan<>U.S.A.)

#Language Exchange Program #SAC #GlobalBBA

The NUCB Language Exchange Program is one of the most popular on-campus activities in which international students from around the world and current students at our university teach each other languages. This program is open to all students, regardless of their faculty or grade, and is free of charge.

In the second semester of 2022, 56 groups are enjoying the Language Exchange. We interviewed Ms. Matushita, a 4th-year student in the Faculty of International Studies.

What kind of interaction do you have?

My language exchange partner is Alyssa from Texas in the USA. We are teaching each other our languages and sharing our culture. Alyssa has also lived in China where she attended an international high school, so she also teaches me Chinese.

Since Alyssa is new to Japan, I teach her useful Japanese phrases for daily life and help her with anything she wants to cover from her Japanese language class on the Global BBA Program. Since we are close in age we have a lot in common, so the exchange is a lot of fun. We are looking forward to going to Ghibli Park together someday.

I have joined the language exchange program many times, and in the past, I have been paired with international students from Indonesia, France, and the UAE. Learning from non-native speakers has helped me understand how to learn English and the culture of other countries.
