Eric (Indonesia) receives offer to join Daihatsu Diesel Co., Ltd.

Eric (Indonesia) Osaka International School of Culture and Language (OBKG) (大阪文化国際学)

Eric joined the Management Faculty (Japanese Track, 正規留学生) at NUCB in 2019 after completing his Japanese language studies at OBKG: Osaka International School of Culture and Language (大阪文化国際学) in Osaka.

Scheduled to graduate in Spring 2023, he has received an offer to join Daihatsu Diesel Co., Ltd., which manufactures diesel engines for medium- and large-sized ships and railway vehicles, diesel engines for land use, gas turbine engines, and cogeneration systems. It is an affiliated company of Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd., a member company of The Midori Kai Co., Ltd. as well as Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd., and belongs to the Sanwa Group.

We caught up with Eric to hear about the support he has received from the careers office and why he has chosen this company and to stay in Japan.

Why NUCB?

After studying Japanese, I chose NUCB because the university had multiple international accreditations and I thought that immersing myself in a multinational environment with students  from all over the world would be an opportunity to improve both my Japanese and English skills.

In addition to Japanese language classes, the Active Learning and Case Study Method made me independent and to learn to think for myself, which has been very useful for job hunting. I have been able to assert my own opinions and ideas to stand out from other applicants thanks to class discussions at this university.

Why did you decide to work for Daihatsu Diesel?

Since I was a child, I have been facinated by ships and I have always wanted to work in the shipping industry.

The more I participated in company seminars and internships as a student of NUCB, the more I realized the presence and importance of ships for global business.

I chose Daihatsu Diesel because I was attracted to the company's culture. I want to work in the sales field and I aim to gain the trust of customers not in Japan, but around the world.

Interview period: January 2023

In addition to being the only school in Japan to offer a Global BBA taught fully in English, we also have a Japanese track for international students what we call Seiki Ryuugakusei "正規留学生".

Students who would like to study alongside our Japanese students that have completed a 12-year curriculum outside of Japan, can choose one of our four faculties; Management, Economics, Commerce or International Studies. We also offer the BBA in Japanese at the Nagoya Campus, using 100% case study methodology.

English proficiency is not required for 正規留学生 but one of the Japanese Language tests must be obtained. Typically students come from Japanese language schools after obtaining the JLPT or EJU, and currently we have students from mainland China, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam.
