Cultural Enrichment Activities - Spring 2026 Kayaking Experience in Ena
On July 19, 2026, NUCB hosted a long-awaited kayaking experience for our full-time Global BBA and exchange students in Ena, Gifu Prefecture. Originally scheduled to take place a month earlier, the event had unfortunately been postponed due to a typhoon. Fortunately, the weather cooperated the second time around, allowing students to finally enjoy an unforgettable day surrounded by Japan's beautiful natural scenery.
A Hot Summer Day on the Water
The day was exceptionally hot, but that did little to dampen the excitement. After receiving a safety briefing and learning the basics of kayaking from experienced instructors, students eagerly launched onto the calm waters.
Participants quickly gained confidence as they paddled through the scenic surroundings, chatting and encouraging one another along the way. For some, it was their first time ever kayaking, while others were excited to build on previous experience. Regardless of skill level, everyone embraced the challenge and enjoyed spending time outdoors together.
The event brought together 20 students representing 16 different countries, highlighting the diversity of NUCB's international community. Students came from: Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, India, Indonesia and Kazakhstan to name just a few.
Exploring Gin no Mori
After working up an appetite on the water, the group enjoyed lunch before making their way to Gin no Mori (銀の森), a popular destination known for its picturesque atmosphere, gardens, cafés, and specialty shops.
Students spent the afternoon exploring the area at their own pace, browsing local products, purchasing souvenirs, and relaxing together. It provided the perfect opportunity to unwind after the morning's activities while experiencing another side of rural Japan.
Although the event required an unexpected postponement due to the earlier typhoon, it was well worth the wait. The combination of outdoor adventure, cultural exploration, and opportunities to interact with classmates from around the world made the day an overwhelming success.
Experiences like these are an important part of student life at NUCB, helping international and Japanese students build friendships beyond the classroom while discovering Japan's rich natural beauty and local communities.
