Applications surge to a record 184% of the previous year’s level
Nagoya University of Commerce and Business announced that the number of applicants for its 2026 admissions cycle increased significantly to 184% of the previous year’s figure. This record growth comes amid intensifying competition among universities due to the declining birthrate and is seen as a result of the university’s educational reforms and its internationally diverse learning environment being well-received by prospective students.
We believe that this significant increase in applicants can be attributed primarily to three unique strengths.
An overwhelmingly diverse student body from 77 countries around the world
The campus brings together international students from all over the world, creating a truly global environment where students can experience diverse values without leaving the country. This aligns with the needs of prospective students who wish to cultivate not only language skills but also cross-cultural understanding and an international perspective.
Case Method Education
Rather than relying solely on one-way lectures, the university has adopted the case method across all faculties, in which students discuss real-world business challenges (cases) and learn the decision-making process. This approach, which helps students develop practical problem-solving skills, has garnered strong support from prospective students who are looking to succeed in the professional world.
The “Global BBA” program, which is taught entirely in English
The Global BBA degree program, which uses English as its official language, conducts all classes in English and employs the case method in its curriculum. The ability to receive specialized education in English while remaining in Japan appears to have aligned with the needs of prospective students aspiring to international careers.
Thanks to these educational features, Nagoya University of Commerce and Business states that its reputation as an international hub for cultivating practical business leaders is growing. It is expected that further enhancements to this educational environment will continue to influence applicant trends in the future.
