Professor Takeuchi speaks at the 2nd Marketing Subcommittee Meeting for High School Teachers

On Friday, August 19, the 2nd Marketing Subcommittee Meeting for high school teachers from the Aichi Prefecture Commercial Education Promotion Association and its member schools was held at Nagoya University of Commerce and Business (NUCB).

The Aichi Prefecture Commercial Education Promotion Association and Nagoya University of Commerce and Business concluded a high school-university collaboration agreement in 2021 with the aim of revitalizing university and high school education.

The Marketing Subcommittee will meet three times in FY2022 to develop and practice case method teaching materials in high school commerce courses, one of the high school-university collaboration projects. In the first session, Professor Takeuchi provided guidance in the development of teaching materials. In the second session, there were group discussions on cases created by participating teachers to exchange opinions and enhance the accuracy of the teaching materials. Professor Takeuchi commented, "Teachers already have enough ability to develop cases. It is no exaggeration to say that case development gives students the power to dream. Let's create cases with love for what kind of people we want our students to become."

Main Projects of High School-University Collaboration

  • Development and practice of case method teaching materials in high school commerce courses
  • University faculty and student lectures at high schools and virtual lectures
  • High school education and special auditing of university classes by high school students
  • Holding workshops through collaboration between university students and high school students
  • Implementation of a special recommendation entrance examination system
  • Provision of teaching materials used at the university
  • Acceptance of candidate students for teaching practice as interns at high schools
  • Exchange of information on educational and research activities in commercial education

Professor Shinichi Takeuchi

He has extensive achievements in the organizational implementation of the case method in both academic and business settings. He joined NUCB Business School as a full professor in April 2018 and was appointed as the Director of the Case Center Japan in September 2019. Dr. Takeuchi is also the founder and representative director of Case Method Laboratory, Inc. which specializes in capacity development through the case method, and has published a number of books, academic publications, and articles on case method education.

Aichi Commercial Education Promotion Association

It is composed of high schools and special-needs schools (Aichi prefectural, Nagoya municipal, and private) in Aichi Prefecture that offer courses in the subject of commerce. 55 schools (700 teachers and 15,987 students) are currently members.

High School-University Cooperative Programs

In commercial education, there is a need to acquire new educational methods and courses of study. In 2013, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) also called for the introduction of case method in education.

The case method is designed to facilitate the ability to think and communicate - which has been difficult to develop in conventional knowledge-based classes - and to help students improve skills such as independence, positivity, cooperativeness, and interpersonal coordination.

With this in mind, NUCB and the Aichi Prefecture Commercial Education Promotion Association have concluded an agreement on high school-university collaboration with the aim of strengthening commercial education.
