NUCB International College (NIC) Receives 2023 Good Design Award

The International Dormitory (International House・Boarding School) of NUCB International College (NIC) located on the same campus as NUCB Undergraduate School (Nisshin), received the 2023 Good Design Award sponsored by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion.

NIC stands out in Japan as one of the select institutions offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) and pioneering international education through a unique boarding house system. The innovative "International House" is an environmentally harmonious structure, nestled amidst lush natural landscapes. It was specifically designed to cater to a diverse student body hailing from Japan and other parts of the world. This establishment serves as a hub for leadership education, facilitating an environment where students with various backgrounds can coexist harmoniously and inspire one another. The dormitory rooms are thoughtfully arranged in a circular pattern around the exterior of the building, affording students a panoramic view of the beautifully undulating campus. Within the circular building, communal living spaces have been strategically placed, fostering a sense of connectedness and unity among the students.

Good Design Award 2023 Jury's Evaluation Comments

The new circular international dormitory seamlessly blends with the existing arc-shaped school building, creating a sense of cohesion and unity. Dormitory rooms encircle the outer edge of the structure, offering ample natural views through large windows. However, the most distinctive feature lies within the circle. The multipurpose space in front of the dormitory rooms, which also serves as a common corridor, has been thoughtfully designed to be spacious and inviting, fostering natural communication in everyday life. The lush greenery, softly reflected in the glass, and the ever-changing circular courtyard on the campus, which shifts with the seasons, will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on the students who spend a portion of their lives in this unique dormitory system.

What is the Good Design Award?
