CAPI: Global BBA Internship Report in Indonesia

#GBBA #Career #CAPI

We caught up with Shisoori, a 2nd year Global BBA student who has just completed an overseas internship in Indonesia through the NUCB CAPI Program (Career Advancement Program International) with the help of the NUCB Careers Office.

What is CAPI?

NUCB Undergraduate School has developed an international internship program with Japanese companies in the ASEAN market to provide our students with an international perspective to be successful in the rapidly globalizing world of today.

Students can transfer up to 2 credits for the internship if they submit an internship report (2,000+ words) and do a final presentation in English. The university scholarship covers 50% or airfare and 50% of hotel accommodation. The total amount of scholarship ranges from ¥120,000 - ¥140,000

Why did you want to do an internship overseas?

I wanted to do an internship overseas to gain new perspectives by working in a different cultural and professional environment. With no prior work experience, this was a chance to apply my knowledge in a real-world setting. I also wanted to challenge myself by navigating an unfamiliar environment, where I'd need to adapt and grow in ways that staying in a familiar place couldn’t offer.

How was your experience pre-departure?

My pre-departure experience was overall smooth and well-supported, thanks to the
career guidance provided throughout the process. The team was always available to
assist, making the document preparation and other logistics quite straightforward.

NUCB was generous financially, covering half of my accommodation and flight costs.

What was the company you interned for? What was your role?

I chose to intern at PT Starts Indonesia due to my family's background in real estate, which sparked my interest in the field. Starts International Ltd. Co., a reputable Japanese company, offered an opportunity to boost my credentials. PT Starts’ innovative approach, integrating real estate, property management, and construction, appealed to me.

Interning in Indonesia allowed me to explore Southeast Asia and experience Jakarta's booming real estate market. I was curious about Japan's influence on Indonesian business and how PT Starts contributes to its development. As part of the leasing team, I handled office buildings in Jakarta, meeting with directors, conducting site visits, and gathering detailed property information. This hands-on experience deepened my understanding of the leasing process and the dynamic business environment in Indonesia.

What have you learned from this experience?

This experience taught me the importance of time management, requiring organization and efficiency to handle a significant workload. I also learned that confidence, even as an intern, is crucial for gaining respect and building professional relationships. Additionally, understanding and respecting cultural differences, especially in a predominantly Muslim country like Indonesia, helped me connect better with colleagues and clients.

The CAPI Program is an incredible and fulfilling opportunity that I highly recommend. It requires hard work but offers invaluable knowledge, practical skills, and personal growth beyond your comfort zone. Remember, this is a learning experience, not a vacation, though you’ll have some time to explore. The combination of professional development and cultural immersion makes the CAPI Program truly rewarding.
