Activity Report: Chubu Electric Power Miraiz
With the cooperation of Chubu Electric Power Miraiz Co., Ltd., a three-day internship program was held for students of our Faculty of Commerce, with eight students participating. Unlike conventional work-experience-style internships, this program was designed through close collaboration between company representatives and university faculty to nurture students as working professionals. The Faculty of Commerce promotes an educational approach that integrates our university’s distinctive case method with the Field Method, which fosters growth through collaboration with local communities and industries. This is known as Intensive Education, and it is implemented as part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s “Knowledge-Intensive Human Resource Development Support Project.”
Developing problem-solving skills through experience and discovery
On the first day of the internship, students learned about the environmental challenges faced by the electric power industry and Chubu Electric Power Miraiz’s solutions business that supports electric power, engaging in discussions with employees on approaches to solving these issues. On the second day, they visited Chubu Electric MIRAI TOWER (formerly Nagoya TV Tower), where they experienced the “Airoco” system, which visualizes ventilation conditions by measuring carbon dioxide concentration, and were introduced to the company’s forward-looking SDG-related initiatives. At the subsequent visit to the Katene Shop, students showed great interest in the empathetic communication robot “BOCCO emo.” While experiencing the LTE model equipped with a remote family monitoring function, they explored, from a student’s perspective, how the technology could be developed for broader applications.
The final day served as a culmination, where students presented innovative proposals aimed at revolutionizing the company’s products and services. They expanded their creative imagination, shared unique ideas, and refined them further through discussions with company staff.
