Language Exchange on Campus (Japan<>France)

#Language Exchange Program #Self Access Center #International Students

The NUCB Language Exchange Program is one of the most popular on-campus activities in which international students from around the world and current students at our university teach each other languages. This program is open to all students, regardless of their faculty or grade, and is free of charge.

In the second semester of 2022, 56 groups are enjoying the Language Exchange. We interviewed Morita-san, a 3rd-year student in the Faculty of International Studies and Nicolas, an Exchange student from France.

What kind of interaction do you have?

I wanted to make the most of my free time and make friends with the many international students on campus.

I was paied with Nicolas (Nico) from France, he is friendly, cheeful, and easy to talk to. In Japanese, I mainly teach him hiragana and I have learny how to count in French. I asked Nico if he experienced culture shock, and he said that he was suprised by how clean Japan is. He was also surprised to see people being polite to their seniors.

Thoughts on participating in the Language Exchange

I joined with a casual desire to make friends from overseas and I'm so glad I did! Me and Nico meet up on and off campus, play billiards and recently went to Ghibli Park. Although this is my first time for the language exchange program, I feel that my English speaking has improved already.
