Language Exchange on Campus (Japan<>France)

#Language Exchange Program #GBBA #Self Access Center #International Students

The NUCB Language Exchange Program is one of the most popular on-campus activities in which international students from around the world and current students at our university teach each other languages. This program is open to all students, regardless of their faculty or grade, and is free of charge.

In the second semester of 2022, 56 groups are enjoying the Language Exchange. We interviewed Kusabuka-san, a 3rd-year student in the Faculty of International Studies and Elenor, an Exchange student from France.

Interview with Kusabuka-san

I overheard French being spoken at a self-access center with international students and thought it was cool. I wanted to learn if I had the chance, so I applied for the Language Exchange and happened to be paired with Eleanor, who is from France.

We are using a French beginner's textbook and she is teaching me how to read words. I am also planning to take the French language exam. We enjoy teaching each other our languages and talking about our common interests. We also went to the Aeon Mall in Nagakute to play games and have dinner together.

Interview with Eleanor

I am from the Beaujolais region, famous for the Beaujolais Nouveau wine. I discovered Japanese anime in high school and started watching it with Japanese audio. I also started studying Japanese independently with a language app four years ago and since coming to Japan, I also go to karaoke and sing Japanese anime songs!

This Language Exchange program allows me to meet Japanese students on campus which is a good opportunity to make friends as I am a bit shy.
