Diverse Cultural Experiences: International Exchange through the Tanabata Festival

NEW #International Studies #Language Exchange Program #SAC #留学生

NUCB held an international exchange event themed around Tanabata. 19 international students and 8 Japanese students participated in this multicultural exchange through traditional Japanese culture. The origins and customs of Tanabata were first explained in English, along with an introduction to the various Tanabata festivals and fireworks displays in Aichi Prefecture. The subsequent workshop got the students to be hands-on and create their own bamboo decorations using origami.

The students also wrote their wishes on tanzaku strips in multiple languages including Japanese and English. The variety of the students' native languages displays the unique and international character of NUCB.

Experiencing Japanese Culture through Yukata

A yukata-dressing experience was also held, allowing international students to try on traditional Japanese attire for the first time. Not only was this an exciting opportunity for the international students, the Japanese students assisting the experience were also able to communicate naturally and engage in collaborative learning.

NUCB hosts over 100 exchange students annually, and international exchange events are held regularly on campus. For the Japanese students, the experience of explaining and sharing their own country's culture and customs in English helps to improve their language skills and cross-cultural communication abilities. The university continues to promote initiatives that help widen students' international perspectives and cross-cultural understanding.
