On Monday, March 20, the Embassy of Japan in Kuwait and the Gulf University for Science & Technology (GUST) had a guest online lecture featuring Dr. M. Mohsin Hakeem.

This event took place in collaboration between the above three organizations and the office of Japan Global Network Project in Middle East & North Africa (J-MENA).

In the beginning, Counselor KANEKO Koji, Deputy Chief of Mission from the Embassy of Japan in Kuwait made opening remarks, in which he expressed gratitude towards the GUST, NUCB, and J-MENA for their contribution to organize this event. He also mentioned how important the business has been for the growth of Japan after its defeat in the Second World War, as well as the importance of achieving the SDGs for future stability of the global community.

He stressed that the embassy is keen on further accelerating people-to-people exchanges between Japan and Kuwait. Following that, the J-MENA office made a short presentation about their activities of bridging between universities and academic institutions between Japan and the MENA region, stating that they recognize the importance of Kuwait and the other GCC countries as potential partners of academic cooperation.

In the lecture, titled “Management Philosophies, Principles & Achievements of Japanese Companies”, Dr. Hakeem talked about management philosophies of Japanese companies, including the concept of KAIZEN, in addition to distinct business cultures in Japan such as punctuality. The professor also presented unique projects of Japanese companies, especially in terms of the SDGs, such
as a smart city project of Woven City by TOYOTA, as well as his own experiences of launching an SDGs project in Gifu prefecture together with RICOH and the local government.
