NUCB Spring 2024 Cultural Enrichment Activity: Ena Kayaking

On July 14th, NUCB Undergraduate School hosted a special kayaking event for its students. The event took place in the picturesque Ena City, located in Gifu Prefecture. This event brought together a diverse group of participants, including full-time Global BBA students, exchange students, and Japanese students. The mix of students provided a unique opportunity for cultural exchange while enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings.

Kayaking and Ena Gorge

The event kicked off at 8AM, with students gathering at our Nisshin Campus to be picked up by bus. When we reached our destination, we were greeted by an incredible sight - the kayaking river and surrounding scenery were blanketed in fog. The staff mentioned this was a rare occurrence, as the fog usually clears by early morning. Students received a briefing on kayak usage, covering safety precautions and general tips. Even though everyone was inexperienced, they adjusted quickly and were soon kayaking around the area with ease. Many students commented on the stunning scenery, with the fog adding to the spectacle. After the initial kayaking session, a bento lunch was provided, and several students chose to jump back into the river for a swim afterwards.

The day was followed by a visit to Ena Gorge (恵那峡). After our kayaking adventure, we boarded the bus for a short ride to this natural landmark. The gorge, famous for its tall cliffs and calm waters, was quite different from our morning spot. Students got to walk around the area, with many taking pictures of the scenery. The Ena Dam, built in 1929, was a point of interest for many students, who were surprised to learn about its historical significance and role in flood control.

The day proved to be a great success, and many students commented on it being a very memorable experience. International Affairs plans on organizing several cultural enrichment activities for the Fall 2024 Semester.
