Fall 2024 Cultural Enrichment Activity: Yukata Event
On October 19 and 20, NUCB Undergraduate School proudly hosted the 2024 Sagamine Festival, an annual celebration organized by the university. As part of this year's festivities, the International Affairs office arranged a special cultural experience for our international students. Participants had the unique opportunity to wear traditional Japanese clothing, including a yukata (a casual summer kimono) and geta (traditional wooden sandals).
Dressed in these garments, the students explored the festival grounds, enjoying food stalls, games, and performances. The experience provided them become more familiar with Japanese culture, and actively participate in one of Japan’s most cherished traditions.
For those unfamiliar, a yukata is a lightweight, cotton kimono often worn during summer festivals. Unlike formal kimonos, yukata are easier to wear and perfect for casual occasions. Paired with geta, a type of wooden footwear with elevated soles, it proved to be a great experience for our students
This cultural exchange offered a fun and memorable way for international students to experience Japanese culture firsthand.
Sagamine Festival
The Sagamine Festival at NUCB, also known as Sagamine Sai, is a lively and vibrant annual event that brings together students, faculty, and the local community. It features many different food stalls run by students, as well as a variety of live performances, including music and dance, on the festival’s main stage.
In recent years, students from NUCB International College (NIC) have also actively participated in the festival, contributing entrepreneurial projects, educational exhibitions, and even live musical performances.
