Taiwan Study Tour 2026: Learning Through Innovation and Cultural Exchange

NUCB Undergraduate School, in collaboration with National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan Tech), held a study tour in Taipei from Monday, August 3, to Friday, August 7, 2026.

The purpose of the study tour was to provide students with the opportunity to engage with Taiwan Tech faculty, visit innovative Taiwanese companies, and experience Taiwan's rich culture firsthand. The program was carefully designed to balance academic learning, industry engagement, and cultural exploration, allowing participants to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan's business environment while applying what they learned throughout the week.

A total of twenty students participated in the program. What made this study tour particularly unique was the diverse composition of the group, which included both Japanese students from the Faculty of International Studies and Global BBA students, whose degree program is conducted entirely in English. The study tour provided an excellent opportunity for students from different backgrounds to learn and collaborate together.

Arrival and Settling In

With the flight departing shortly after noon, students gathered at Chubu Centrair International Airport during the morning. While most participants traveled together on the same flight, several students chose to arrive in Taipei earlier for personal travel.

The flight departed on schedule, and upon arrival at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, representatives from Taiwan Tech warmly welcomed the group at the arrival gate. After transferring to the hotel arranged by Taiwan Tech, students checked in and had the remainder of the day to settle in before the official program began.

Day 1: Campus Tour and Academic Lectures

The first official day began with a guided tour of the Taiwan Tech campus. Faculty members and staff met the group at the hotel before escorting everyone to the university. Students explored the modern campus facilities and gained valuable insight into student life at one of Taiwan's leading universities.

Following the campus tour, participants attended the program's opening session, where they were welcomed by Taiwan Tech faculty and presented with welcome gift bags.

The academic program then commenced with a lecture by Prof. Dr. Shuyi Huang on Circular Economy and Technology Applications, followed by a second lecture delivered by Prof. Dr. Roy Yeh on Innovation and Platform Strategy. Both lectures introduced students to current trends in sustainable business, technological innovation, and platform-based business models, providing valuable perspectives that would later be applied during the company visits and final presentations.

After the lectures, students returned to the hotel for a short break before attending a welcome dinner with Taiwan Tech faculty and staff. The dinner provided an excellent opportunity for participants from both universities to interact, exchange ideas, and build new friendships in a relaxed setting.

Day 2: Company Visits

The second day focused on industry visits, allowing students to observe how leading Taiwanese companies operate and innovate.

The morning began with a visit to Trend Micro, a global cybersecurity company founded in 1988. During the visit, students learned about the company's cybersecurity solutions, cloud security technologies, and AI-powered threat intelligence. Staff members provided an overview of current cybersecurity challenges and demonstrated how Trend Micro develops technologies to combat evolving digital threats. Students actively participated throughout the session, asking thoughtful questions and engaging in discussions with company representatives.

Following lunch, the group traveled to their second company visit of the day: ASUS.

Founded in Taiwan in 1989, ASUS is one of the world's leading manufacturers of laptops, computer hardware, gaming products, networking equipment, and AIoT technologies. Students were impressed by the company's modern headquarters and facilities, where they were given a guided tour before attending a presentation on ASUS's history, global expansion, and ongoing investments in artificial intelligence. The visit provided valuable insight into how a globally recognized technology company continues to innovate in an increasingly competitive industry.

After concluding the company visits, the group traveled to Shilin Night Market, Taipei's largest and most famous night market. Students explored the lively streets filled with local food stalls, specialty snacks, games, and souvenir shops. For many participants, this was a highlight of the trip, offering an authentic glimpse into Taiwan's vibrant night market culture while providing opportunities to experience local cuisine and purchase souvenirs.

Day 3: Student Presentations and Cultural Exploration

The final day of the academic program centered on student presentations.

Working in groups, students were tasked with identifying a contemporary social issue and proposing a business-oriented solution by applying concepts they had learned throughout the lectures and company visits. The presentations demonstrated creativity, critical thinking, and effective teamwork, with students drawing upon examples from Taiwan's technology sector and innovative business practices.

Following each presentation, Taiwan Tech faculty provided constructive feedback and encouraged students to further develop their ideas. At the conclusion of the session, participants were presented with certificates of completion in recognition of their successful participation in the study tour.

In the afternoon, the group visited the National Palace Museum, one of the world's most renowned museums of Chinese art and culture. Home to nearly 700,000 historical artifacts and works of art, the museum houses treasures that were once part of the imperial collections of Chinese emperors. Students explored a wide range of exhibits, including the museum's most famous pieces, such as the Jadeite Cabbage and the Meat-shaped Stone. The visit provided valuable historical and cultural context, complementing the business-focused aspects of the program.

Departure and Conclusion

On the final day, students checked out of the hotel and prepared for their return journey to Japan. Although the group closely monitored the approach of a typhoon during the week, the program was completed successfully.

The Taiwan Study Tour proved to be an enriching experience for everyone involved. Through academic lectures, company visits, cultural activities, and collaboration with Taiwan Tech students and faculty, participants gained valuable international perspectives while strengthening their understanding of innovation, business, and Taiwanese society.
