June Open Campus Report Nisshin Campus

#Open Campus

On June 11th we successfully held our inaugural summer Open Campus event.

The event served as a platform to showcase the exceptional educational capabilities of the Nagoya University of Commerce and Business (NUCB), with a particular emphasis on the engaging active learning case method classes.

Notably, the Global BBA Program drew significant interest from a diverse range of attendees. Special guests flew in from Singapore exclusively for this event, alongside students residing in Japan from countries such as Myanmar, Vietnam, Brazil, Uzbekistan, and Korea, among others.

During the event, guests were treated to guided tours of our campus, allowing them to gain firsthand experience of our facilities. They also had the delightful opportunity to savor the delectable lunch options offered in our school cafeteria. Furthermore, first-year Global BBA student volunteers enthusiastically shared their personal motivations for choosing NUCB and provided valuable insights into recommended activities, including the language exchange program at the Student Activity Center (SAC), as well as offering a glimpse into the typical day of a student.

Check out the recap of today's Open Campus below.

Harvard Case Method Experience Class

  • Sangheon Han, Director - Faculty of Management

Professor Han conducted an experiential class focusing on the decision-making mechanism of individuals in ambiguous situations. In the context of job interviews in a company, the class explored the managerial decision of selecting one candidate out of four. Using a case study approach, participants had the opportunity to step into the role of a company president and provide their own opinions and choices, based on the perspectives of seven interviewers. They were asked, "If you were the president, which candidate would you hire from candidates A to B?" There were no right or wrong answers, and everyone was encouraged to freely raise their hands and share their opinions.

  • Hideharu Isono, Director - Faculty of International Studies

In Professor Isono's experiential class, the theme was "Deliver Your Message! - Effective Communication." The class conducted case studies on the power of words, which serve as important means to express one's identity and knowledge. Using the case method, various communication issues that occur in business settings were explored. Participants discussed and deliberated on the hidden inequalities within everyday expressions, considering perspectives such as gender and workplace diversity.

NUCB Advantages

  • Special Lecture: "World-Class Business Education"

NUCB is the only school in Japan (1% worldwide) that has obtained all three major international accreditations (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA). At this Open Campus event, a special lecture was held by Professor Yokoyama, the Dean of the NUCB Graduate School of Management (former Vice President of Ritsumeikan APU), and Chancellor Hiroshi Kurimoto, providing insights into the education at NUCB. The lecture highlighted the case method as an inquiry-based learning approach and introduced the world-class standards of business education achieved at NUCB.

  • Campus Tour

We are delighted to showcase the expansive and nature-rich Nisshin Campus, which boasts the largest campus area among private universities in Aichi Prefecture. During the tour, visitors had the opportunity to explore classrooms designed for active learning, recently completed language education facilities, a fitness room, and the stylish Sora Cafe cafeteria.

  • Student Voice

A current NUCB student shared their study abroad experience at the University of Alberta in Canada, providing valuable insights into the development of language skills and cultural knowledge during their time overseas. They emphasized the unique and invaluable opportunities that can only be obtained through studying abroad. We believe that this information will be highly beneficial for high school students who are considering studying abroad.
