March 30 Open Campus Recap

#OC #Case Method #Global BBA

Last Saturday, one more successful Open Campus took place at NUCB Undergraduate School in Nisshin. A big thank you to our wonderful GBBA volunteer students –Lisa (USA), Claude (Japan), Kornel (Hungary), and Hannah (Philippines) – for their amazing help that made the day truly special.

From Tokyo, Hamamatsu, Tottori, to Okinawa, students and their families traveled to our campus, excited to explore what NUCB has to offer. Our day began with an exciting campus tour, followed by a relaxing break at our university cafeterias, Sora Cafe and Hananoki, where guests enjoyed a taste of university life.

After lunch, our visitors enjoyed an informative session conducted entirely in English. They learned all about the Global BBA program, including the application process and requirements. With the help of our Admissions team and enthusiastic 1st year GBBA students, guests had their questions answered firsthand.

As a special treat, two of our talented GBBA students, who took the IB diploma shared insights into the Case Method, and its differences compared to the IB teaching style. They gave everyone a peek into the engaging learning experience awaiting our students in terms of preparation before class, what to expect during class, and how assessment is done at the end of each course.

Some highlights of this memorable day:

Harvard-Style Case Method Experience Class

  • Faculty of Economics, Professor Yamamoto

In Professor Yamamoto's class, we learned about the difference between promises and contracts from a legal perspective using the case method. Despite initially seeming challenging, the class became engaging and participatory for everyone, even beginners, thanks to familiar cases and clear explanations. There were no right or wrong answers, encouraging free participation and providing a solid experience of our university's teaching style.

  • Faculty of International Studies, Professor Isono

In Professor Isono's class, we studied the case "Reach Out! – Effective Communication" to explore the importance of words as a vital means of expressing one's identity and culture. Using the case method, we delved into various business communication issues encountered in companies. We examined inequalities lurking within everyday expressions, discussing them from the perspectives of gender and workplace diversity with active participation from attendees.

Sharing the Charms of Our University

  • Info Session for Parents

Lectures by Professor Yokoyama, Director of Graduate School (former Vice President of APU), and President Hiroki Kurimoto, shed light on NUCB's educational approach, including its inquiry-based learning through the case method and introduction to world-class management education standards.

  • Student Clubs Introduction

We invited prospective high school students who wish to continue their club activities in university to visit our clubs. They had the opportunity to witness some practice sessions and explore our excellent facilities firsthand, and also to ask questions to seniors and coaches.

  • University Lunch Experience

The lunch experience was a huge hit! Students and their family enjoyed lunch at the very popular spot 'SORA CAFE' and the student dining hall 'Hananoki,' immersing themselves in the true university experience and relaxing after walking around the campus.
