Today we are joined by Kristen, a second-year Vietnamese student who joined the Global BBA program in Spring 2020.
Kristen joined NUCB from Quoc Hoc – Hue High School for the Gifted, one of the most famous schools in Vietnam, recognized for its strong academic results and being famous for the notable political leaders who graduated from it, including Ho Chi Minh.
Why did you choose Japan and NUCB for your studies?
Actually, at first, I was interested in going to America with my friends, but since my family has a business in the food industry with strong relations to Japan, we made the decision that Japan would be ideal to learn about business practices. I had already studied Japanese in Vietnam, and then I went to Tokyo University of Social Welfare and obtained the JLPT N2 level.
I was accepted to another university in Beppu, Japan, but after searching for universities I came across NUCB, and after seeing their AACSB accreditation and knowing that the classes were taught entirely in English using the case method I knew that was where I wanted to learn about business.
In Vietnam, everything is theory-based and our evaluations are from final exams. I think the case method can help me learn from real-life situations which will benefit our family business. For example, one of my favorite classes so far has been Organizational Management taught by Professor Law.
This class taught us how to manage an organization, with a focus on the value chain system. One memorable class was related to the case of Abercrombie & Fitch and exclusivity.
Are you working part-time?
At the moment I am running my own business in the fashion and accessory industry, and I am also working in student affairs for my previous language school.
Finally, what do you think of Nagoya?
I really like Nagoya. It is not crowded compared to Tokyo or Osaka, and the atmosphere is quite good. I am also a foodie so I love to explore and find the best Ramen spots!
