We interviewed Charlotte, a fourth-year business student from Ivey Business School at Western University in Canada. Currently on exchange at NUCB, she is focusing on courses in management, marketing, and technology while enjoying campus life, local cuisine, and the opportunity to learn through the case method alongside students from around the world.

Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

I am a 4th year business student from Ivey Business School at Western University in Canada. I am participating in a semester exchange at NUCB, focusing on courses in management, marketing, and technology.

What do you do in your free time before/after class and on weekends?

I've made lifelong friends with fellow students whom I live with at Meito dormitory, and we spend a lot of time together after class and on the weekends. After class, we explore different restaurants and cafes in Nagoya, and go shopping together around Nagoya station and Sakae. My favorite Nagoya food is Kishimen. On weekends, we've gone on short trips to Kyoto and Osaka.

What is your impression of the Case Study Method? Did you have any experience at high school with this style?

I have used the case method for many years now throughout high school and university. My favorite part about using the case method at NUCB in particular would be getting to hear the perspectives of students from different countries. I have gained a deeper understanding of Japan and the world. It has been a privilege to learn directly from professors and fellow students from places including Portugal, Brazil, Hong Kong, and France. Likewise, I am able to share my Canadian perspective in the classroom, and participate in valuable class discussions.

What is your favorite facility on campus?

My favorite place is Sora Cafe! The meals are always delicious and the staff are very friendly. The seating area is comfortable and great for catching up with friends.
