Ketlin joined the Global BBA Program at NUCB in Spring 2022 from Mie Prefectural Iino High School in Japan and as part of the NUCB Global BBA Double Degree Program, Ketlin took a leap into the heart of western France to study at Audencia Business School in Nantes. From adjusting to a new academic environment to navigating life in a French city steeped in history and charm, Ketlin’s experience has been filled with meaningful lessons, unforgettable moments, and personal growth.
What has been the most memorable experience during your stay in France so far?
One of the most unforgettable moments was a one-day trip to La Rochelle with a group of international students. I had seen photos before, but nothing compared to experiencing it in person—the medieval streets, the ocean breeze, and standing at the top of the abbey with breathtaking views. It felt like walking through a fairytale. The best part was sharing the moment with friends from all over the world, each of us on the same study abroad journey.
What is life like at Audencia and in Nantes?
Nantes is peaceful and full of character. The architecture is beautiful, and I love the small bakeries and cafés around town. Public transportation is easy to use, and people bike or walk a lot. I had to adjust to the slower pace of life, especially with everything closed on Sundays, but now I appreciate the focus on balance and quality of life.
Class schedules vary. Some days we have a full load, others just one class or a day off. Classes usually start at 8:15 or 10:30 a.m., and each lasts two hours. I take the tram—about a 35-minute ride—to campus. On long days, we get a 1.5-hour lunch break, though the options nearby are mostly sandwiches, so I often bring food from home.
Can you tell us about one of your classes?
I really enjoy our Organizational Behavior course. The professor has a great teaching style—engaging, passionate, and clear. Right now, we’re focusing on communication, storytelling, and negotiation. These are incredibly relevant skills, and I feel like I’m gaining tools that will benefit my future career.
What differences have you noticed between Japan, Brazil, and France?
From Japan, I’ve come to appreciate the order and efficiency—especially in public systems. In France, things can feel a bit unpredictable, like sudden tram delays or confusing paperwork. But France has its charm and a strong work-life balance. From Brazil, I’ve carried a sense of friendliness and openness, which helps me connect with people in international environments. I now see that as a strength I bring wherever I go.
How did the experience help you grow personally or academically? Any message to students who are considering studying abroad?
I’ve discovered that I’m much more independent and adaptable than I thought. From navigating French bureaucracy to managing daily challenges, I’ve learned to trust myself more. I’m more comfortable with uncertainty now, and I’ve become more open, curious, and confident in unfamiliar situations.
