Anand, a fourth-year Global BBA student, participated in an exchange program at Bocconi University in Italy. During the program, he engaged in a rigorous academic environment, explored the integration of AI and business, and took part in practical, project-based learning.

Why did you decide to participate in the exchange program?

Studying at Bocconi University had always stood out to me because of its academic rigor and global reputation. When I discovered that NUCB offers an exchange opportunity there, I knew I couldn’t miss it. Coming from NUCB’s case-based and discussion-oriented learning environment, I saw this exchange as a chance to challenge myself further, learn from a diverse cohort, and gain a deeper understanding of European business perspectives.

What did you learn and experience during your time at Bocconi?

I explored a challenging curriculum that integrated creativity, technology, and business. I took courses such as Fashion Management, AI in Business Strategy, Competitive Strategies for Creative Industries. These courses gave me a broad and integrated perspective on how innovation drives modern markets. The most impactful course was Introduction to AI in Business Strategy. Through interactive discussions and real-world applications, I developed a deeper understanding of how AI can be strategically applied to solve complex business problems and foster innovation. This experience helped me connect theory with practice and strengthened my confidence in using AI in future business contexts. Beyond academics, the Bocconi campus and environment also left a strong impression on me. The modern facilities and motivating atmosphere made the entire learning experience both exciting and memorable.

What was the most memorable part of your experience at Bocconi?

During my time at Bocconi, the most memorable experiences were the project-based assignments that focused on the practical application of artificial intelligence. In a course-based competition, my team developed an AI workflow designed to solve complex mathematical problems using minimal computational resources. Using OpenAI Playground, we optimized the workflow to reduce unnecessary computations and improve efficiency. Our solution was evaluated as the most efficient in the class, and we received the highest recognition along with a medal. In addition, as part of the final course evaluation, I worked on developing a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) chatbot for a healthcare setting. We collected and structured clinical documents and designed an agent-based workflow consisting of specialized bots. This project allowed me to understand how AI can be applied to improve real-world business operations.

What did you gain from this experience?

This exchange helped me develop a strong understanding of how AI can be applied strategically in business contexts. Through project-based learning, I improved my ability to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges. I also strengthened key skills such as strategic thinking, adaptability, time management, and independent learning. Adapting to a new academic and cultural environment further enhanced my flexibility and global mindset.

What advice would you give to students considering studying abroad?

I would recommend approaching the experience with openness and discipline. Bocconi offers a highly rigorous and intellectually stimulating environment, so active participation is essential. Beyond academics, take every opportunity to explore the local culture and environment. Studying abroad is not only about education—it is also about personal growth. Stepping outside your comfort zone will help you develop independence, adaptability, and confidence.
