Jed (Uganda), St. Mary's International School Tokyo, Japan

Jed joined the Global BBA Program in Fall 2022 from St. Mary's International School in Tokyo, first visiting the Nisshin Campus with his family to get a sense if the school was a good fit for him. Since enrolling in NUCB, Jed has joined the Basketball Club and Investment Club, and received the IBDP scholarship and International Dormitories Scholarship. We caught up with him to learn about his school life so far.

What do you think of the diversity of NUCB?

NUCB is a unique international university in Japan that stands out due to its diverse student and faculty population. With individuals from various countries and backgrounds, including professors and students who have lived in different parts of the world, NUCB provides a rich multicultural learning environment where students can learn from one another's unique experiences.

What has been your favorite class so far?

My favorite class at NUCB has been "Doing Business in Japan" with Professor Hakeem. In this class, I had the opportunity to learn about Japanese corporate culture and the competitive strategies of Japanese companies like Sony and Toyota. The engaging class discussions made the learning experience interesting and informative. This class has been particularly valuable for me as I am studying business in Japan and aspire to work in Japan in the future. It has helped me to better familiarize myself with these companies, which may be relevant to my future career endeavors.

What scholarships have you received?

I have been fortunate to receive the NUCB IBDP scholarship, which provides a 300,000 JPY annual tuition reduction, as well as an international dormitory scholarship of 420,000 per year at Meito Dormitory.

Tell us about the clubs you have joined.

I am a part of two clubs at NUCB: the Basketball Club and the NUCB Investment Club.

In the Basketball Club, we have three practice sessions per week and occasionally participate in games and tournaments against other universities. My experience in the club has been fantastic as it has allowed me to bond with Japanese students, practice my Japanese language skills, and improve my basketball abilities.

Similarly, my experience with the NUCB Investment Club has been positive. We usually meet once a week to discuss market news, stocks, and participate in in-club stock pitch competitions. Despite not having much prior knowledge in finance and investing, I joined the club to gain more insight into these areas. The club has helped me enhance my skills in investing and finance, and I highly recommend joining if you have an interest in these fields.
