Exchange Program

Roy, Exchange to Monash University, Australia

NEW

Roy (Hong Kong)

Roy joined the Global BBA program at NUCB in 2021, after graduating from Singapore International School in Hong Kong. He was awarded the NUCB IBDP Scholarship for achieving 32 points or higher on his final IB Diploma. Recently, Roy participated in an exchange program at Monash University, one of NUCB's esteemed partner schools. Australia had always been a dream destination for him, and we're thrilled to have helped make that dream a reality.

Why did you choose Monash University for your exchange?

I chose Monash University due to its strong global reputation and its position as one of Australia’s leading institutions. I was particularly interested in experiencing the Australian education system and exploring the country’s unique culture and natural environment.

How would you describe the campus and student life?

Monash has four campuses spread across Melbourne, each one focusing on specific areas like Pharmaceuticals, Business, Finance, and Nursing. I lived in on-campus housing, which helped connect with students from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds. The university offered a wide range of extracurricular activities, including student clubs, sporting events, and social programs. The campus facilities were extensive and well-maintained, with spacious libraries, fitness centers, and comfortable study and recreational areas. The community atmosphere was welcoming and inclusive, making it easy to adapt and feel at home.

What was your favorite class?

My favorite course was Property Investment. The tutor was engaging, bringing energy and humor to each session. He effectively incorporated relatable real-world examples, which made the subject both enjoyable and easier to understand. The interactive and dynamic teaching style left a strong impression on me.

What were some of your memorable moments?

One of the most memorable experiences was my trip to Tasmania with other exchange students, where we explored the area’s beautiful nature and wildlife. I also visited the Great Ocean Road twice, and took a short holiday to Brisbane with several scenic road trips. Another highlight was an overnight fishing trip in Geelong, which was a great way to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Attending Australian Football League (AFL) games at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) was another standout experience. The atmosphere at the games was lively, and it gave me a better understanding of Australia’s sports culture.

Any message to your juniors considering an exchange?

Studying abroad at Monash University was a rewarding and transformative experience. It allowed me to gain new academic perspectives, build international friendships, and develop a deeper appreciation for different cultures and ways of life. I would highly recommend the exchange program to any student who is seeking academic enrichment and personal growth in a global setting.

What are your future plans?

Following the completion of my studies at NUCB, I plan to return to Hong Kong and pursue a career in the finance sector. My exchange experience at Monash University broadened my global perspective and reinforced my interest in international financial markets. I believe the academic foundation I’ve built, combined with the cross-cultural competencies I developed abroad, will serve me well as I take the next steps in my professional journey.
