Sophie (France)

Originally from France, Sophie is currently pursuing a master’s degree at Burgundy School of Business. Passionate about Japanese culture, history, food, and way of life, she chose to study at NUCB Undergraduate School to experience life in Japan while learning in an international environment and meeting students from around the world. Outside of her studies, Sophie enjoys playing the harp and spending time with friends over board games.

What were your first impressions when you arrived in Japan and at NUCB?

My first impression was that Japan is beautiful and very close to what I had imagined before coming here. I was also surprised by how large and green the NUCB campus is, especially the peaceful atmosphere and natural surroundings.

How would you describe everyday student life at NUCB?

The campus experience is very friendly and welcoming. There are many activities and clubs that help students connect with each other, such as language exchange programs and cultural events. The residences are also a great place to make friends and enjoy daily student life together.

What has been the highlight of your exchange experience so far?

One of the most memorable experiences has been meeting people from many different countries and discovering new cultures together. I also really enjoyed events such as the welcome party, where students shared their traditional clothing and culture, creating a very warm and international atmosphere.

How has the NUCB learning style helped you grow academically?

The case method has been a very interesting way to learn because it focuses on real companies and real-world problems. It has helped me improve my communication, presentation, and critical thinking skills while learning to express my ideas more confidently in class.

What message would you like to share with future exchange students?

Do not be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and ask for help when needed. Living abroad may feel challenging at first, but it is an amazing opportunity to grow personally, become more independent, and create unforgettable memories and friendships.
