Exchange Program

Nandhana, Exchange to Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM)

NEW

Nandhana (India)

Namhaa joined the Global BBA Program from India International School in Japan (IISJ).

Why did you decide to participate in the exchange program?

I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and explore new cultures while gaining a global perspective on my field of study. Studying in Europe had always been a dream, and Erasmus University is one of the top business schools in the world. Its international student body, strong academic reputation, and central location in Rotterdam made it the perfect choice.

What’s your impression of the university and academic life?

Classes are much larger than at NUCB—sometimes over 300 students—but they’re still interactive. I’ve met people from all over the world. The structure includes both e-lectures and in-person workshops, and many classes focus on exams, which was a big adjustment. I’m currently taking Innovation Management, which challenges us to think strategically and innovatively. We also had the chance to present sustainable business solutions for a real company, which made learning very practical.

How do you spend your time outside of class?

I love traveling! I’ve visited Paris, Belgium, and Germany, and recently did a short trip to Maastricht. The transport system is fantastic, and the extended summer weather has made exploring really enjoyable. When I’m not traveling, I’m usually working on assignments or hanging out with friends. I’ve also joined a university event where we presented a strategy for BASF, which gave me experience with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and industry feedback.

What cultural differences have stood out to you?

Dutch culture is very open and individualistic. People are direct but friendly, and almost everyone speaks English, which helps a lot. Biking is a big part of daily life here, and I’ve loved how people relax outdoors—whether on boats, in parks, or at cafes after work. It’s a very balanced lifestyle, and I’ve really embraced it.

What advice do you have for students considering exchange?

Research your destination in advance, especially the culture, weather, and cost of living. I wish I had learned some basic Dutch—it would’ve helped with small daily interactions. Also, plan your schedule wisely so you have time for both studies and travel. Most importantly, be open to new experiences—you’ll grow more than you expect!
