JACOBO(Mexico) Tomas Alva Edison

Please introduce yourself.

My name is Jacob. I am a second-year student in the GBBA program, and I am from Mexico.

Why did you want to study in Japan?

I lived in Tokyo before applying to NUCB, where I attended a language school. During my time in Tokyo, I fell in love with the culture of Japan. It’s hard to explain, but for some reason I feel more connected to the way Japan operates and the lifestyle here than to how my own country operates.

What dormitory are you in, what do you think of it?

I have been living in the Meito dormitory. Taking into account the scholarships, it is very cheap given the amenities provided, it is also close to a supermarket which is very convenient.

Are you part of any clubs or language exchange?

I have been part of multiple clubs. Before, I used to be with CESA, where my role was mostly related to media and marketing. I was also the photographer, videographer, and later the editor of the club. I also helped organize events such as our stall at the Sagamine Festival. Now, I am in the Gakusay, or PBC, club, which creates online content to share on social media. I am acting as the editor for that club, but I am also organizing certain future videos.

What kind of student excels at NUCB?

At NUCB, the most important thing is participation; for most classes, participation makes up about 70% of the grade. That being said, aside from that, it is common to have presentations instead of exams or reports. Thus, someone who is good at and comfortable with public speaking will surely thrive at NUCB.
