Rageeb (Bangladesh) Chittagong Cantonment Public College

Please introduce yourself

My name is Muammar Rageeb Shahriar. Everyone calls me Rageeb. I am a first year GBBA student from Bangladesh and I started my studies at NUCB in Fall 2024. I studied in Chattogram Collegiate School for my junior high school years and Chattogram Cantonment Public College for my senior high school years.

Why did you want to study in Japan?

From a young age, I have been watching numerous anime shows. I fell in love with Japanese culture and the country because of my favorite animes, such as Ninja Hattori-Kun, Doraemon, Atashinchi, Beyblade, and Dragon Ball Z. I had a deep love and admiration for Japan. Since I was a child, my desire has been to pursue my higher education in Japan. When I found out NUCB offers the top BBA program in Asia, possibly worldwide, it was a perfect opportunity for me. That is why I desired to pursue studies in Japan.

What is your impression of the case study method? Have you ever experienced this style in high school?

I thoroughly enjoy the NUCB Case Study Method. This approach enables us to enhance critical thinking abilities and utilize our knowledge for creating solutions. It's an excellent way to acquire new knowledge.
I sort of had an encounter with this approach during my time in high school. During exams in Bangladesh, we have to answer questions from our knowledge regarding an event or story which is provided in the question paper. It's kind of similar to the Case Study Method we use at NUCB.

What has been your favorite class / professor / case so far and why?

NUCB has a lot of excellent professors, but my favorite is Prof. Dr. M. Mohsin Hakeem, who teaches the course "Doing Business in Japan." He possesses a great deal of energy and consistently delivers engaging lectures. His classes are both entertaining and informative due to his charismatic personality.

What has been your most memorable moment so far?

The most memorable moment I've had was wearing a Yukata at the Sagamine Festival 2024. I have always had a desire to dress in traditional Japanese attire, specifically the Yukata. Upon learning about the Yukata Event at the Sagamine Festival, I promptly signed up to participate. During the occasion, I and a few classmates dressed in Yukata, took pictures, and wandered around the stalls at the Festival. That was definitely a moment I will always remember.

What do you do in your free time before/after class and on weekends?

In my free time, I like to play video games. I play many competitive video games like Valorant, Counter Strike 2 etc. I also play some story based single player games like Resident Evil, Metal Gears etc.
On the weekends, I like to spend my time exploring my surrounding areas. As I live in the Sanbongi Campus dorm, there are plenty of places around here to explore. Sometimes, I also go to Nagoya City for sightseeing.

What dormitory are you in, what do you think of it?

I live in the Sanbongi Campus Dormitory. It's a single room dormitory for male students. It's a great dormitory to live in. As it is a single room dormitory, your privacy will not be hampered by anyone. The people living here are extremely friendly. Also, NUCB has provided everything necessary for a student in the dorm. It's really a fun place to live.

Are you part of any clubs or language exchange?

I am currently part of the NUCB Karate Club and also Language Exchage+ Program.

Do you have any advice for those considering NUCB?

If you want a unique method of study from renowned professors, you can choose NUCB without any doubt. But, if you are an international student who doesn’t know Japanese, I will suggest that you learn some Japanese before joining here. It will really help you to communicate with the friendly people here. Also, you are expected to participate and discuss the cases in the class, so you have to be prepared. Furthermore, don't hesitate to ask the professors questions. They are extremely helpful and if you have a doubt about a topic, they will help you out.

What is one thing that surprised you the most after enrolling?

I was surprised by the kindness and friendliness of the staffs and the professors. Whenever I fall into any trouble, they will help me without any hesitation.
